Listening Computer is for writers who want to focus on their ideas and not the mechanics of typing. It can help students write essays, journalists write articles, novelists write books, and anyone else tired of typing.

Before stories were written, they were spoken. Dostoevsky dictated The Gambler in just 26 days with the help of a stenographer. Speaking removes the friction of having to type, rearrange, and format your words, letting you convey your authentic voice through the page without the hassle.

You can choose local transcription, which is completely private, or cloud transcription, which temporarily sends your audio to servers for processing. We don't store your audio either way.

Dictation tools such as WisprFlow are optimized for information transfer: short emails, Slack messages, etc. Listening Computer is focused on improving the writing experience for long-form content, like journals, articles, and essays.

Those tools turn you into a prompter instead of a writer. You spend your time in a chat box describing the document you want instead of writing in the document itself. Listening Computer takes your words down and follows your editing directions; it doesn't become your co-author.

Every word you add, remove, or replace in a document with your voice is counted as a word. Unchanged words and words you type don't use your allowance.
